Hi, my name is Vic Swan, welcome. I am 66 years old and I suppose
you could say that I am obsessed with genealogy. The bug first bit me
back in 1967, in those days Family Historians were frowned on as time
wasters by most archive repositories and none were geared up to help us.
Of course this statement is a generality and there were always exceptions.
The one oasis was 'The Society of Genealogists'. Although I never
became a member, whenever I could get to London I endeavoured to
spend an afternoon there. It was here that I discovered I was not alone
with my eccentric hobby, and thanks to the help of my new found friends I
soon made considerable progress. All was not doom and gloom
however, one advantage- for me, if not the archives- was the fact that
very few records had been microfilmed. When an archive was requested
the actual document was usually presented. A truly wonderful feeling that
your ancestor was present when the record was first made.

With a lot of help and good fortune I have managed to trace the Swan
main line back to the late 15th century. My maternal line has not been
quite so successful, so I am well aware of the trials and tribulations which
lie out there. Perhaps you will find among these pages some elusive
ancestor you have been searching for.

Over the years I have accumulated a huge amount of data relating to my
branch of the Swan tree and also considerable referances to other Swans.
It is my aim to organise and include all this data on this website. Please
keep- coming back, because this is obviously going to be quite a large
ongoing task. I promise I will try to add a little more each week.
Good hunting.
